The ReCrafted Gem

Our Story

Where memory and modern design meet

At The ReCrafted Gem I take old and broken jewelry and give it new life.

The Maker

My name is Masina Johnston and I am the owner and operator of The ReCrafted Gem.

My story stems from surviving cancer in 2020. During recovery I was encouraged to make art. I started making sun-catchers and redesigning my own jewelry, always out thrifting old necklaces for more beads.

In September 2025, I decided to see if I could make a business out of my hobby, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

After years of thrifting, I could see the huge amount of stuff, and particularly jewelry, that was unwanted and broken. I realized there was no need to make new pieces when I could ReCraft unwanted ones and repair the broken ones.

I would be delighted to work with you on pieces you already have that are not working for you, or you're welcome to browse pieces I've already made online. You can also come see me at the pop-up shops and markets I do every few months.

I believe every piece of jewelry deserves a second chance. Many of the beads and materials I work with come from forgotten, broken, or unworn pieces. By redesigning them into something beautiful again, I help preserve memories while creating jewelry people genuinely love wearing.
